Americus Garden Inn Named 2023 Top 10 Bed & Breakfast in the U.S.

It is with great pride that we share our tremendous news.  The Americus Garden Inn Bed & Breakfast has, once again, been recognized by TripAdvisor as one of the Top 10 B&Bs in the United States for 2023.  TripAdvisor’s “Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best” (as the award is called) takes into account the quality and quantity of traveler reviews, ratings, and opinions over a 12-month period (Jan-Dec 2022) using a special algorithm that takes into consideration the size of the property, as well as, a number of other factors. All reviews are “vetted” to insure they are posted by real travelers who have stayed at the properties in question.  Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best award winners are among the top 1% of all listings on TripAdvisor.

We remember when we received our first TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Award.  It was 2007 and we were recovering from the EF-3 tornado that had hit Americus on March 1^st of that year.  It was quite a destructive storm and on our property alone we lost 30 trees!  In addition, about 50% of our shingles were gone, we had one tree leaning on our new entry portico, two more on the garage roof, our only car was destroyed, and myriad of other things that needed repair or replacement.  Damage could have been catastrophic, but we were lucky in that the damage to the house and property was repairable even if we were shaken and knew it would take a long time to get back to “par”.  It was probably mid-May and we had been working hard and steadily for over two months and were tired, dejected, and a bit depressed wondering if we would ever get back to “normal” and operating as a viable business.  Then a package arrived in the mail that contained a congratulatory letter and an etched glass award trophy from TripAdvisor that informed us of our achievement.  We had been ranked #4 in the U.S. based on guest reviews!  At that point in time we were only vaguely aware of TripAdvisor’s existence and it was very early in the evolution of consumers being able to post reviews on the internet.

Needless to say, we were elated, and it was just what we needed to put “the wind back in our sails” and keep persevering.  That adversity and the very much unexpected positive reinforcement from an outside objective party validated that our “brand” of hospitality was on the mark, and we have been pursuing that philosophy of excellence ever since!

Over the past 17 years, taking into consideration that we were closed for most of 2020-2021 (9 months each year) for Covid-19, we are honored to have earned this award an unprecedented 12 times!  No other B&B in the U.S. has achieved this feat.

2007 was the first year that TripAdvisor created a distinct category for Bed & Breakfasts as prior to that point they only ranked hotels.  For the first 5 years (2007-2011) the award recognized the Top 10 properties, and from 2012 to present the award has been expanded to recognize the Top 25.  We thought you might be interested to see a historical perspective of our efforts.
